BILL NUMBER:S6290 TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to authorizing the town of Mamaroneck and the village of Mamaroneck to designate a portion of New York Route 1 as a school zone PURPOSE: To allow the Town of Mamaroneck and the Village of Mamaroneck the authority to designate a portion of New York Route 1, commonly known as the Boston Post Road, as a school zone, to permit a lower speed limit during school hours given the presence of both Mamaroneck High School and Hammocks Middle School in close proximity to the route. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1: Provides the authority for the Town of Mamaroneck and the Village of Mamaroneck to designate a school speed zone on West Boston Post Road (New York Route 1) between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM on school days, between Winthrop A venue in the Town and the entrance to Town Hall, located at 740 W. Boston Post Road, in the Village. Section 2: Establishes an immediate effective date for the legislation. OPPENHEIMER -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT in relation to authorizing the town of Mamaroneck and the village of Mamaroneck to designate a portion of New York Route 1 as a school zone THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of the highway law, the vehicle and traffic law or any other laws to the contrary, the town of Mamaroneck and the village of Mamaroneck are hereby authorized to desig- nate a school speed zone on West Boston Post Road (New York Route 1) with a posted speed limit of 20 miles per hour, effective school days between 7 AM and 5 PM, to be located between Winthrop Avenue in the town of Mamaroneck and the entrance of Mamaroneck Town Hall, 740 West Boston Post Road, in the village of Mamaroneck.
