AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to enacting the  "Commit-
  ment to Military Education Act"

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "Commitment
to Military Education Act."
  S 2. The education law is amended by adding a  new  section  669-e  to
read as follows:
  S  669-E.  TUITION  ASSISTANCE  FOR MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE
UNITED STATES.  1. ELIGIBLE STUDENTS. STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED  IN  THE
STATE  OF  NEW  YORK  UNIVERSITY  SYSTEM  ON  THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS
SECTION AND MUST HAVE BEEN ENROLLED  IN  A  TUITION  ASSISTANCE  PROGRAM
UNDER  A BRANCH OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES WHICH WAS CANCELLED OR
SUSPENDED IN THE YEAR 2013.
  2.  TUITION  REDUCTION.  NOTWITHSTANDING  ANY  LAW  TO  THE  CONTRARY,
STUDENTS  WHO  MEET  THE REQUIREMENTS OF SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION
SHALL BE ELIGIBLE FOR REDUCED TUITION IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK UNIVERSI-
TY SYSTEM.  REDUCED TUITION SHALL BE EQUIVALENT TO THE  REGULAR  TUITION
AMOUNT  REDUCED  BY THE AMOUNT OF ASSISTANCE PER CREDIT HOUR THE STUDENT
FORMERLY RECEIVED FROM A TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM UNDER  A  BRANCH  OF
THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
