S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 9927 I N A S S E M B L Y May 29, 2014 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Sweeney) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Environmental Conservation AN ACT to amend the navigation law, in relation to directing the depart- ment of environmental conservation to establish and provide for the posting at public boat launches of universal signage warning of the threat of aquatic invasive species and providing for the elimination of such threat posed by watercraft THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The navigation law is amended by adding a new section 35-d to read as follows: S 35-D. AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES SIGNS AT PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCHES. 1. THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION SHALL DESIGN AND ESTABLISH A UNIVERSAL SIGN WHICH MAY BE POSTED AT ANY ACCESS POINT TO THE NAVIGA- BLE WATERS OF THE STATE RELATING TO THE THREAT AND MITIGATION OF AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES, AS DEFINED IN SUBDIVISION TEN OF SECTION 9-1703 OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION LAW, IN THE WATERS OF THE STATE. 2. COMMENCING WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS SECTION, THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION SHALL POST OR PROVIDE FOR THE POSTING OF THE UNIVERSAL SIGN, ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO SUBDIVISION ONE OF THIS SECTION, AT EACH PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH IN THE STATE.
