BILL NUMBER:S1439 TITLE OF BILL: An act to establish a task force on food, nutrition and physical education to investigate and establish appropriate and healthy meal plans and physical education standards for New York state schools; making an appropriation therefor and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To establish a task force on food, nutrition and physical education to investigate and establish appropriate and healthy meal plans and physical education standards for New York city schools; making an appropriation therefore and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: The primary duties of the task force will be to investigate and establish appropriate and healthy meal plans and physical education standards for New York City Schools. The task force shall consist of 15 members as follows: Chaired by Commissioner of Education or designee * (5) members appointed by the commissioner of education;

ROBINSON -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to establish a task force on food, nutrition and physical educa- tion to investigate and establish appropriate and healthy meal plans and physical education standards for New York state schools; making an appropriation therefor and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The commissioner of health is hereby directed to create a task force on food, nutrition and physical education to investigate and establish appropriate and healthy meal plans and physical education standards for New York state schools. S 2. The task force shall consist of 15 members and shall be chaired by the commissioner of health or his designee. Five members shall be appointed by the commissioner of health; two members shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the commissioner of education; three members shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the governor; two members shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the speaker of the assem- bly; and two members shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the temporary president of the senate. The commissioner of health may invite appropriate ad hoc representatives from other state and/or local agen- cies to serve on the task force. Vacancies on the task force shall be filled in the manner provided for original appointments. S 3. The task force shall report its findings, conclusions and recom- mendations to the governor, temporary president of the senate and the speaker of the assembly by September 1, 2015.
