BILL NUMBER:S3781

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the
designation of the "Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial Highway"

PURPOSE: To designate a portion of the state highway system as the
"Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial Highway". That portion of State
Highway Route 32 in Waterford north to its intersection with Route 423
in the Town of Stillwater then continuing both: (a) north along Route
32 past the Saratoga National Cemetery and the Saratoga Battlefield to
Wilbur Road in the Town of Saratoga; and (b) west along route 423 in
the Town of Stillwater to Route 92 north in the Town of Saratoga and
ending at the Route 92 bridge over Fish Creek in the Town of Saratoga
shall be designated as the "Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial
Highway".

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section one- amends the highway law by adding a new section 342-iii
which designates a portion of the state highway system as the
"Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial Highway". That portion of state
highway Route 32 in Waterford north to its intersection with Route 423
in the Town of Stillwater then continuing both:(a) north along route
32 past the Saratoga National Cemetery and the Saratoga Battlefield to
Wilbur Road in the Town of Saratoga; and (b) west along Route 423 in
the Town of Stillwater to route 9P north in the Town of Saratoga and
ending at the route 92 bridge over Fish Creek in the Town of Saratoga
shall be designated as the "Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial
Highway".

Section two- calls for the Commissioner of Transportation to provide
for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state
highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act.

Section three - Effective date.

JUSTIFICATION: Various local V.F.W. Posts and American Legion posts
have sent letters of support for the designation of the Saratoga
County Veterans' Memorial Highway. The Saratoga County Board of
Supervisors Veterans' Committee passed a resolution for this
designation. This bill would increase the visibility of the historic
corridor in Saratoga County which was the location of the Battle of
Saratoga Turning Point of the Revolutionary Warn. It would also
benefit the Saratoga National Cemetery and the New York State Military
Museum.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: S2160-B (2012)

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None to the state.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately.
