BILL NUMBER:S6321

TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the
"St. Lawrence Wine Trail"

PURPOSE:

To designate a portion of the state highway system in St Lawrence
County as the "St. Lawrence Wine Trail".

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Section 1 amends the heading of section 343-k of the Highway Law to
include the "St. Lawrence Wine Trail" in the listing of wine trails.
Section 1 also adds a new subdivision 10 to section 343k of the
Highway Law to designate specific portions of the state highway system
in St. Lawrence County as the "St. Lawrence Wine Trail".

Section 2 provides that this act shall take effect immediately.

JUSTIFICATION:

Currently, although wine trails already exist in many parts of the
state, none exist in St. Lawrence County. Therefore, this bill is
necessary to create the "St. Lawrence Wine Trail" along portions of
the state highway system in St. Lawrence County. Creation of this wine
trail will raise awareness of the wineries and vineyards in Saint
Lawrence County. It will shed a new and positive light on this part of
the region's economy.

Creation of the St. Lawrence Wine Trail will also provide a new
attraction for residents and visitors of the North Country. Although
this area already has much to offer, the "St. Lawrence Wine Trail"
will be a great addition to all the wonderful opportunities that
already exist. Visiting the wineries along the trail will become
another exciting activity for the visitors and residents of St.
Lawrence County and the entire North Country. Therefore, enactment of
this bill is necessary to create the "St. Lawrence Wine Trail".

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:

New Bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:

Minimal.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

This act shall take effect immediately.
