Requires public schools in any city with a population over one million that have at least 25% of students practicing Halal to offer Halal food options during lunch.
TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the education law, in relation to
requiring certain public schools in any city with a population over one
million to offer Halal food options during lunch
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would require a city having over one million inhabitants to
require that each of its public schools offer Halal food options during
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Amends the education law by adding a new section, 915-a
Requires any city having a population of over one million residents to
offer Halal food options in public schools during lunch.
Due to the growing Muslim population, this bill seeks to accommodate to
the dietary obligations of Muslim students within the NYC education

This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after it
shall become a law.
