BILL NUMBER:S6828 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the hamlet of Bay Shore, county of Suffolk, as the "Corey J. Swinson Memorial Bridge" PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Designates the bridge on County Road 13 which crosses the Sunrise highway in the hamlet of Bay Shore, county of Suffolk, the "Corey J. Swinson Memorial Bridge". SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Amends the highway law by adding a new section 343-cc to ensure the foregoing. JUSTIFICATION: The intention of this bill is to designate the bridge on County Road 13 which crosses over Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore, New York as the "Corey J. Swinson Memorial Bridge". Corey Swinson was a native son of Bay Shore who became an NFL football star. After his career in the NFL, Corey J. Swinson returned home to Bay Shore to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of local young people. He coached a youth football league, worked as security director for the Bay Shore

BOYLE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of the state highway system in the hamlet of Bay Shore, county of Suffolk, as the "Corey J. Swinson Memorial Bridge" THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 343-cc to read as follows: S 343-CC. PORTION OF THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE "COREY J. SWINSON MEMORIAL BRIDGE". THE BRIDGE ON COUNTY ROAD 13 WHICH CROSSES THE SUNRISE HIGHWAY IN THE HAMLET OF BAY SHORE, COUNTY OF SUFFOLK, SHALL BE DESIGNATED AND KNOWN AS THE "COREY J. SWINSON MEMORIAL BRIDGE". S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal- lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system as designated pursuant to section one of this act; provided that, to avoid any confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge shall not be changed as a result of this act.
