BILL NUMBER:S2093 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the elder law, in relation to requiring the director of the office of the aging to develop materials relating to elder abuse awareness in social adult day services programs PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To increase awareness of elder abuse among employees and volunteers of social adult day programs. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Amends subdivision 2 of section 215 of the Elder Law to require the director of the State Office for the Aging to develop materials for employees and volunteers of social adult day services and social adult day care programs. Materials would include, but not be limited to, ways to discuss suspected elder abuse with seniors and resources for counseling, shelter, and other assistance. EXISTING LAW: None JUSTIFICATION: The National Center on Elder Abuse estimates that for every case of elder abuse that is reported, another five may go unreported. Increasing awareness of elder abuse and the resources available for victims can result in more victims being identified and helped.
