BILL NUMBER:S2177 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 759 of the laws of 1973 relating to the transfer of lands to the United States for the establishment of the Gateway National Recreation Area, in relation to the time period in which lands may be conveyed PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This legislation extends the time peri- od during which lands may be transferred to U.S. for establishment of the Gateway National Recreational Area. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1. Section 5 of chapter 759 of the laws of 1973 relating to the transfer of lands to the United States for the establishment of the Gateway National Recreational Area, as amended by chapter 85 of the laws of 2008, is amended to read as follows: Section 5. All such lands shall be ceded, granted and conveyed to the United States on or before May 1, 2015 JUSTIFICATION: The Gateway National Recreational Area plan is an innova- tive approach to the creation of urban park space. Gateway will combine recreational facilities with educational programs and an organized effort to attract the population of the entire region which this Federal project will serve. Section 5 of chapter 759 of the laws of 1973 relating to the transfer of lands to the United States for the establishment of the Gateway National Recreation Area, as amended by chapter 570 of the laws of 2011, is amended to read as follows: S 5. All such lands shall be ceded, granted and conveyed to the United States on or before May 1, [2013] 2015. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
