AN ACT to amend the general municipal law,  in  relation  to  crosswalks
  near athletic fields and playgrounds

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as "Erin's law".
  S 2. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new section  137
to read as follows:
  S  137.  CROSSWALKS  NEAR ATHLETIC FIELDS AND PLAYGROUNDS. 1. NOTWITH-
STANDING ANY OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, THERE  SHALL  BE  A
CROSSWALK,  AS  DEFINED  IN  SECTION  ONE HUNDRED TEN OF THE VEHICLE AND
TRAFFIC LAW, ACROSS EACH ROAD THAT ABUTS AN ATHLETIC FIELD OR PLAYGROUND
EVERY ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED TWENTY FEET.
  2. THERE SHALL BE A YIELD SIGN IN EACH DIRECTION OF  TRAFFIC  ALERTING
DRIVERS TO YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS IN THE CROSSWALK.
  3. THIS SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY TO RESTRICTED HIGHWAYS.
  S 3. This act shall take effect two years after it shall have become a
law.

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  S  2. The general municipal law is amended by adding a new section 137
to read as follows:
  S 137. CROSSWALKS NEAR ATHLETIC FIELDS AND  PLAYGROUNDS.  1.  NOTWITH-
STANDING  ANY  OTHER PROVISION OF LAW TO THE CONTRARY, THERE SHALL BE AT
LEAST ONE CROSSWALK, AS DEFINED IN SECTION ONE HUNDRED TEN OF THE  VEHI-
CLE  AND  TRAFFIC  LAW,  LOCATED ACROSS EACH ROAD THAT ABUTS AN ATHLETIC
FIELD OR PLAYGROUND. ONE OR MORE CROSSWALKS SHALL BE LOCATED SO THAT THE
DISTANCE FROM EACH END OF THE ATHLETIC FIELD OR PLAYGROUND TO THE CROSS-
WALK, OR BETWEEN CROSSWALKS, SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED
FEET.
  2. THERE SHALL BE A YIELD SIGN IN EACH DIRECTION OF  TRAFFIC  ALERTING
DRIVERS TO YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS IN THE CROSSWALK.
  3. THIS SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY TO RESTRICTED HIGHWAYS.
