BILL NUMBER:S4728 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to hunting in Ontario county PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: This bill would make permanent provisions permitting the use of rifles for big game hunting in Ontario County. EXISTING LAW: Environmental Conservation Law Section 11-0907 currently allows the taking of deer by rifle in counties such as Albany, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Herkimer, Livingston, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Ontario, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, Wayne, Wyoming, Yates, and in a portion of Broome and Chautauqua. JUSTIFICATION: Ontario County, by Resolution No. 196-2015, has requested the New York State Legislature to enact legislation that will allow the permanent use of rifles for big game hunting in all of Ontario County. Paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law is amended by adding a new item (j) to read as follows: (J) THE COUNTY OF DEER, THE FIRST PISTOL, SHOTGUN, ONTARIO SATURDAY AFTER NOVEMBER CROSSBOW, 15 THROUGH FIRST SUNDAY MUZZLE LOADING AFTER DECEMBER 7 FIREARM, RIFLE OR LONG BOW ONLY S 2. This act shall take effect upon the expiration and reversion of paragraph a of subdivision 2 of section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law, as provided in section 13 of chapter 600 of the laws of 1993, as amended.
