BILL NUMBER:S5938 TITLE OF BILL: An act in relation to state aid for the Saranac central school district PURPOSE: Provides that Saranac Central School district shall be entitled to full aid notwithstanding the fact that they were in session for fewer than one hundred eighty days. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: Section 1. Notwithstanding the fact that the Saranac Central School District was in session for fewer than one hundred eighty days in the 2014-2015 school year due to no fault of its own, the Commissioner of Education is authorized to disregard the reduction of state aid required pursuant to section 3604 of the education law and shall pay such school district its apportionment as if the school district had been in session for the required one hundred eighty days. JUSTIFICATION: Due to the search for two escaped prisoners from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York the Saranac Central School district was closed June 11 and 12 of 2015. This closure and any further closures that may be necessary will place them under the required 180 days of instruction and thus result in a reduction of state aid pursuant to section 3604 of the education law. DUPREY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT in relation to state aid for the Saranac central school district THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Notwithstanding the fact that the Saranac central school district was in session for less than 180 days in the 2014-2015 school year, due to no fault of its own, the commissioner of education is authorized to disregard the reduction of state aid required pursuant to section 3604 of the education law and shall pay such school district its apportionment as if the school district had been in session for the required 180 days.
