 AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to the promotion  and
   administration of scheduled exams
 
   THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
 BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section 1. Subdivision 2 of section 50 of the civil  service  law,  as
 amended  by  chapter  166  of  the  laws  of 1978, is amended to read as
 follows:
   2. Announcement of examination. The state civil service department and
 municipal commissions shall issue an announcement  of  each  competitive
 examination,  setting  forth  the  minimum  qualifications required, the
 subjects of the examination, and such other information as they may deem
 necessary, and shall advertise AND  PROMOTE  such  examination  in  such
 manner  as  the nature of the examination may require. Such announcement
 and advertisement  shall  each  inform  prospective  applicants  of  the
 options  for  religious observance provided in subdivision eight of this
 section.
   § 2. Section 50 of the civil service law is amended by  adding  a  new
 subdivision 5-a to read as follows:
   5-A. LOCATION OF EXAMINATIONS.  (A) THE STATE CIVIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT
 SHALL  OFFER  EXAMINATIONS  AT  ANY  LOCATION OR LOCATIONS THAT IT DEEMS
 SUITABLE.
   (B) THE STATE CIVIL SERVICE DEPARTMENT SHALL MAKE EFFORTS  TO  UTILIZE
 STATE  UNIVERSITY  OF  NEW  YORK  EDUCATIONAL  OPPORTUNITY  CENTERS WHEN
 SELECTING TESTING SITES.
   § 3. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
 have become a law.
