COMMENDING Armand J. Mancuso posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Armand J.
Mancuso posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate, to be presented to his family at the Rensselaer
County Honor a Veteran Ceremony on Monday, May 9, 2022; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Armand Joseph Mancuso was born on March 27, 1932, to Armand
A. and Lillian (Picone) Mancuso in Syracuse, New York, and grew up in
Plattsburgh, New York, where he attended Champlain College; and

WHEREAS, On November 9, 1951, Armand J. Mancuso enlisted in the
United States Army, and proudly served his country as a supply clerk
with the 63rd Field Artillery Battalion, 24th Infantry Division during
the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service during the War, Armand J.
Mancuso was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on October 23,
1953, Armand J. Mancuso transferred to the Army Reserves and graduated
from Syracuse University where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma
Fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Armand J. Mancuso was then employed by Travelers Insurance,
Alexander Proudfoot, Yellow Pages, and Gildea Tax Service before he
established Mancuso Tax Service; after 30 years of serving his
community, he officially retired in 2020; and

WHEREAS, On August 26, 1956, Armand J. Mancuso married the former
Helen Gildea and together, they owned and operated the Boradaile
Restaurant in Troy, New York, and Boradaile Kennel in Sand Lake, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Active in his community, Armand J. Mancuso was a member of
both the local Elks and VFW; and

WHEREAS, Armand J. Mancuso died on February 14, 2020, at the age of
87, and was buried at St. Paul's Cemetery in Mechanicville, New York;
and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Armand J. Mancuso demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Armand J. Mancuso posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Armand J. Mancuso.
