CONGRATULATING Marie Charles upon the occasion of
being crowned Ms. New York on April 3, 2022

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals who have inspired and brought pride to
our majestic Empire State with their character and outstanding
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Marie Charles upon the occasion of being crowned Ms. New
York on Sunday, April 3, 2022; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Harlem, New York, and born in Washington D.C.
to Haitian immigrants, Marie Charles was educated in both Haiti and the
United States; she is a graduate of the esteemed Massanutten Military
Academy, and upholds the values of discipline, resiliency, and moral
rectitude as such, leveraging these abilities to improve both herself
and others; in 2004, she proudly graduated from Baruch College with a
degree in business administration; and

WHEREAS, Demonstrating her hard work and perseverance, Marie Charles
has earned silver and gold medals as a blue belt in Taekwondo, and as a
philanthropist, she has selflessly used her foreign language skills to
facilitate the medical and rescue missions of not-for-profit
associations in Haiti; and

WHEREAS, Marie Charles was crowned on April 3, 2022, by Royal
International Miss, an organization which helps to grow positive-self
imagery in women, cultivates and hones talents and public speaking
abilities, and facilitates poise and self-confidence; throughout her
reign, she has truly demonstrated and embodied these characteristics and
ideals, justly earning her the esteemed title of Ms. New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her role as Ms. New York, Marie Charles has
volunteered with Covenant House, supporting young children and mothers
of diverse backgrounds; in lending her time and efforts to Gifted Hands,
she and her colleagues have used crafting as a means of providing
emotional support to people of low socio-economic status, as well as
those with special needs; and

WHEREAS, A devout woman of Christian faith, Marie Charles is most
proud of being the unfaltering guardian of her beautiful younger sister
who was born with Down Syndrome; and

WHEREAS, With her zest for life, Marie Charles will no doubt inspire
other women to pursue their dreams; this exceptional woman believes that
it is important to touch lives and be the positive change we want to see
in our world, while paying it forward in giving back in appreciation;
and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our

attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Marie Charles upon the occasion of being crowned Ms. New
York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Marie Charles.
