HONORING the life and heroic actions of Jared
Lloyd, renowned volunteer firefighter, devoted
father and distinguished member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a courageous and hardworking firefighter who dedicated his purposeful
life and career in faithful service to both his family and the residents
of New York State; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the tragic and untimely passing of Firefighter Jared Lloyd, who
made the ultimate sacrifice on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the age of
35; and

WHEREAS, A 16-year veteran of Columbian Engine Company No. 1 of the
Spring Valley Fire Department, Firefighter Jared Lloyd served with
dedication, loyalty and compassion, truly devoting his life and career
to helping others; and

WHEREAS, Just after midnight in the early morning hours of Tuesday,
March 23, 2021, Firefighter Jared Lloyd was one of the first to arrive
on the scene of a structure fire at Evergreen Court Home for Adults, a
sprawling assisted-living facility that stretched nearly an entire
Spring Valley block; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Jared Lloyd was in the process of searching for
residents from the blaze when he himself became trapped on the third
floor of the building and radioed in a "mayday" call, a call which would
end up being his final words to his comrades; and

WHEREAS, Jared Lloyd's brother firefighters immediately attempted to
locate and extricate him, but were unsuccessful before the building
suffered a catastrophic collapse; and

WHEREAS, After searching for more than 18 hours straight, state and
local emergency service personnel located the body of Firefighter Jared
Lloyd, a true hero who is credited with saving 112 residents alongside
more than 150 fellow firefighters from four counties; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Jared Lloyd gave his life in service to others,
but more importantly, he lived his life in service to others; he proudly
served as an engineer, second lieutenant and first lieutenant among many
leadership positions in Columbian Engine Company No.1; and

WHEREAS, Born in Flushing, Queens, to Calvin and Sabrail, Jared
Lloyd graduated in 2004, from Spring Valley High School where he played
as a linebacker on the Varsity Football Team; in addition to giving
tirelessly of his time and energies as volunteer firefighter, he worked
as a field service technician for Optimum; and

WHEREAS, An avid golfer and bowler, Jared Lloyd was a die-hard Mets
fan who never lost faith in his team; and


WHEREAS, While he was passionate about many things, above all his
greatest passion was being a father to his two young sons, Darius and
Logan; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Jared Lloyd's infinite selflessness and
benevolence will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories;
his life of service and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love,
light and hope to the countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Firefighter Jared Lloyd leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man;
he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the life and heroic actions of Jared Lloyd, and to express its
deepest condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Firefighter Jared Lloyd.
