CONGRATULATING Jean Whitney upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Jean Whitney upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday to be
celebrated on Saturday, February 5, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Jean Tyler was born on her family's farm in the hamlet of
North Granville, New York, on February 5, 1922; she is the youngest of
four siblings; and

WHEREAS, Growing up on the farm, Jean Tyler and her siblings were
raised with fresh air, fresh food, and were taught to understand and
appreciate the value of hard work; and

WHEREAS, Following their graduation from Granville High School, Jean
and her high school sweetheart, Carl Whitney, married at the North
Granville Methodist Church on May 28, 1941; like many others in this
beautiful rural area of New York State, Jean and Carl enthusiastically
spent their illustrious career farming; and

WHEREAS, By 1945, Jean and her husband were blessed with three
wonderful children, a son Wayne, as well as one of the biggest surprises
of their lives, twins Lynn and Linda; and

WHEREAS, After the untimely death of her husband on August 16, 1954,
Jean Whitney and their children lived with her parents on a nearby farm;
and

WHEREAS, Jean Whitney used the business skills she had learned in
high school to secure employment at a farm supply store, enabling her
children to continue their education at Fort Ann Central School; she
went on to become a bookkeeper for Washington County Social Services;
and

WHEREAS, Through her hard work and sacrifice over the years, Jean
Whitney was able to witness her children graduate from Fort Ann Central
School before putting all three through college; and

WHEREAS, Today, Jean Whitney is the proud grandmother of seven
wonderful grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Jean Whitney, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Jean Whitney has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jean Whitney upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jean Whitney.
