MOURNING the death of Philip Carollo, beloved
Principal, devoted husband and father, and
distinguished member of his community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Philip Carollo was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Philip Carollo, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Philip Carollo of Tottenville, Staten Island, New York,
died on March 1, 2022, at the age of 49; and

WHEREAS, Born on April 29, 1972, and raised in Brooklyn, New York,
Philip Carollo, most affectionately known as Phil, attended Xaverian
High School; he held a Master's degree in Education from the University
of Phoenix and a Master's degree in Administration from The College of
Staten Island; he also held a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology
from St. John's University; and

WHEREAS, Philip Carollo began his teaching career in 2001 at PS 44
in Mariners Harbor; after a decade as a teacher, he served as the
assistant principal of PS 22 in Graniteville for seven years before
taking on the role of principal of PS 56 in Rossville in 2017; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious tenure, this adored principal
hosted trunk-or-treats and color-a-thon fundraisers for the school; he
led his students and staff, along with the SSG Michael Ollis Freedom
Foundation's Operation Ollis, sending supplies to military personnel
overseas; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was a strong advocate for student and
school safety, especially in the surrounding streets and sidewalks of PS
56, and when COVID-19 shuttered schools, he read a bedtime story to his
students every night on Facebook to ensure they knew he was with them
through the uncertainty of a global pandemic; and

WHEREAS, A man of indomitable faith and dedication, Philip Carollo
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a
legacy to his family, friends, the students of PS 56 and to the
community-at-large; a legacy to love freely, to speak kindly, to raise
people up, to remain calm, to not hold grudges, and to smile; and

WHEREAS, While he was passionate about many things, above all his
greatest passion was being a father to his children, being "Uncle Phil"
to his nieces and nephews, cooking for family and friends, and providing
a loving environment for all of his students at PS 56; and

WHEREAS, Philip Carollo is survived by his wife of 17 years, Erin
Carollo; daughter, Sophia Carollo; son, Giovanni Carollo; father,
Giovanni Carollo; mother, Pietra Carollo; sister, Maria Concetta
Cipriano; brother-in-law, Anthony Cipriano; sister-in-law, Jennifer
Lioce; brother-in-law, Chris Lioce; nephews, Salvatore Cipriano, John
Cipriano and Christopher Lioce; nieces, Cristina Cipriano and Jessica
Lioce; great-nephews, Antonino Cipriano and Michael Cipriano; and
great-nieces, Maria Lina Cipriano and Valentina Cipriano; and

WHEREAS, Philip Carollo's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Philip Carollo leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Philip Carollo, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Philip Carollo.
