HONORING Cayden Mangiameli upon the occasion of
being named a 2022 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold
Scholar

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, honoring the young people of today,
and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify
the ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cayden
Mangiameli upon the occasion of being named a 2022 Coca-Cola Academic
Team Gold Scholar; and

WHEREAS, The Coca-Cola Academic Team program recognizes 50 Gold, 50
Silver, and 50 Bronze Scholars nationally with nearly $200,000 in
scholarships annually; each scholar also receives a commemorative
medallion; and

WHEREAS, Students are nominated for the academic team by their
college administrators, and selection is based on academic achievement,
leadership, and engagement in college and community service; selection
is also based on scores the student earned in the All-USA Academic Team
competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received this
year; and

WHEREAS, This vital program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars
Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society,
the national honor society for students at two-year institutions; and

WHEREAS, Cayden Mangiameli will be recognized for this auspicious
honor during the All-New York Academic Team Luncheon on Wednesday, April
13, 2022, at Onondaga Community College; he will also be recognized
internationally during Phi Theta Kappa's Annual Convention, April 7-9,
2022, in Denver, Colorado; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Glen Spey, New York, Cayden Mangiameli is a
business administration student at SUNY Orange; and

WHEREAS, Upon his graduation in May of 2022, Cayden Mangiameli will
have completed a somewhat non-traditional educational path by having
first attained his High School Equivalency (HSE) at SUNY Orange in 2018
before enrolling full-time in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Cayden Mangiameli serves as president of SUNY Orange's
local PTK chapter, is president of the Sexuality and Gender Alliance
(SAGA) student club and is a member of the Business Club; he has been a
volunteer firefighter since he was 16 years old, while simultaneously
working for an area accounting firm where he currently serves as the
office manager; and

WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for those in need, Cayden Mangiameli
volunteers for many humanitarian efforts which support a variety of
communities; he has been a strong student voice at SUNY Orange on behalf

of the LGBTIA+ community, and this year, he led a discussion on
understanding the impact of using and misusing preferred pronouns; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Cayden Mangiameli has led a partnership
between PTK and Fearless! Hudson Valley to supply people and families of
domestic abuse with essential items; he is also coordinating fundraising
efforts to help the college install free menstrual product dispensers
and displays on both campuses to expand access to products that are not
free or covered by government assistance programs; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from SUNY Orange, Cayden Mangiameli
intends to transfer to a four-year university to continue his education
in business, with a focus on finance and women and gender studies; his
long-term goal is to partner his small business with organizations which
promote unity; he would also like to open a community center for
minority groups to give them a second chance at life; and

WHEREAS, Truly deserving of this high academic honor, Cayden
Mangiameli is an amazing student, leader and person who has not only
excelled at the highest level in the classroom, he has been an active
presence in student life at the college, even in the midst of the
pandemic; and

WHEREAS, As Cayden Mangiameli takes his leave of SUNY Orange, he
bequeaths a legacy of academic achievement, school involvement and
community service to which others may aspire; and

WHEREAS, Cayden Mangiameli stands poised on the threshold of a broad
and challenging world; a testament to the love and nurturing care of his
family, friends and school; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Cayden Mangiameli,
a young man and able scholar, recognizing the value of his labors and
the promise of his future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cayden Mangiameli upon the occasion of being named a 2022
Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cayden Mangiameli.
