HONORING the life and heroic actions of Timothy
Klein, renowned firefighter, distinguished citizen
and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a courageous and hardworking firefighter who dedicated his purposeful
life and career in faithful service to both his family and the residents
of New York State; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that this Legislative Body
records the tragic and untimely passing of FDNY Firefighter Timothy
Klein, who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the
age of 31; and

WHEREAS, On Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 1:49 p.m., FDNY units
responded to 108-26 Avenue N in Brooklyn for reports of smoke in the
area; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Timothy Klein, a six-year veteran of the
Department assigned to Ladder Company 170 but working in Engine Company
257 on this tour, responded to the scene in under five minutes with his
fellow Firefighters and found visible fire in a private home; and

WHEREAS, Without hesitation or regard for his own safety,
Firefighter Timothy Klein began battling the blaze, which quickly
escalated to a three-alarm fire; as conditions in the building rapidly
deteriorated, the Incident Commander ordered all members from the
building; and

WHEREAS, During this time, Firefighter Timothy Klein became trapped
under a ceiling collapse and critically injured; he was removed from the
building by his fellow Firefighters and rushed to Brookdale University
Hospital Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Queens, New York, Timothy Klein's family has
a rich history of service in the FDNY, and he bravely followed in their
footsteps; he was appointed to the FDNY on December 28, 2015, and after
graduating from the Fire Academy, he was assigned to Ladder Company 170
in Canarsie, Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, The 1,157th member of the FDNY to die in the line-of-duty,
Firefighter Timothy Klein gave his life heroically fighting to save the
lives of others; and

WHEREAS, Timothy Klein genuinely loved being a firefighter, and
through his strong work ethic, great courage, and positive attitude, he
inspired numerous fellow firefighters; he is survived by his father,
retired FDNY Firefighter Patrick Klein; his mother, Diane; and his three
sisters, Erin, Tara and Bridgette; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his meritorious life, Timothy Klein touched many
through his kindness and commitment to service, and, as we recall the

loss of this great man, we memorialize his remarkable life and the
enormous impact he had on everyone with whom he came in contact; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Timothy Klein gave his life in service to
others, but more importantly, he lived his life in service to others;
his infinite selflessness and strength will forever stand as a paradigm
and inspiration for others; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Firefighter Timothy Klein leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all who were privileged to have known and loved him; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the life and heroic actions of Timothy Klein, and to express its
deepest condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Firefighter Timothy Klein.
