COMMENDING Shelly Callahan upon the occasion of
her designation as Grand Marshal of the 2022 City of
Utica's Independence Day Parade

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage and
traditions; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Shelly Callahan upon the occasion of her designation as Grand
Marshal of the 2022 City of Utica's Independence Day Parade which will
take place on Monday, July 4, on Genesee Street in Utica, New York; and

WHEREAS, Shelly Callahan is the Executive Director of The Center in
Utica, New York, an organization which assists refugees, immigrants, and
those with limited English language proficiency throughout the
integration process and helps them achieve independence by developing
services that enable them to build a community with many cultures; and

WHEREAS, She started her career at The Center in 2006 as the Manager
of the Employment Department; over the course of the next several years,
she worked in various departments and was the Chief Operating Officer
(COO) for two years prior to becoming the interim Executive Director in
March of 2012, then Executive Director in August of the same year; and

WHEREAS, Prior to working for The Center, Shelly Callahan served as
an Editor in legal publishing in Washington, DC, working four years at
the United States Supreme Court as a Legal Editor in the Reporter of
Decisions Office; and

WHEREAS, Shelly Callahan, a graduate of SUNY Buffalo and resident of
Holland Patent, New York, lives with and is supported by her husband,
Ed, two daughters, Shay and Lindy, her son, Edward, and their three
loveable dogs, Mouse, Bear, and Gus, all of whom are proud of her
accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Shelly Callahan upon the occasion of her designation as Grand
Marshal of the 2022 City of Utica's Independence Day Parade; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shelly Callahan.
