COMMEMORATING the 75th Anniversary of the Junior
League of Central Westchester

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
and celebrate outstanding organizations that work to promote the
wellbeing of the citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Central Westchester has been in
operation in Scarsdale for 75 years, serving the local community through
promoting literacy, health, wellness and safety for children, women, and
families; they continue to hold true and strong to their educational and
charitable mission: commitment to "promoting voluntarism, developing the
potential of women and improving communities through the effective
action and leadership of trained volunteers. Since its inception, the
Junior League of Central Westchester has remained true to its core
mission and values"; and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Central Westchester was incorporated
in 1947 as the Junior League of Scarsdale; from the very beginning, the
League was fulfilling their mission, dedicating itself whole-heartedly
to the uplifting of the community; at the beginning of the 1970s, the
Council of Junior Leagues of Westchester (CJLW) and in 1984, the
Scarsdale Junior League became The Junior League of Central Westchester
(JLCW); and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Central Westchester is extraordinarily
generous and can be relied on to lend a helping hand whenever someone is
in need; the recipients of the League's generosity include those
impacted by insecurities such as food, clothing, and housing children
with disabilities, victims of abuse, refugees, and more; and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Central Westchester is dedicated to
preserving the history of its namesake region; this includes extensive
support for museums, historical societies and restoration and
preservation efforts, but also written histories, including Of Colonists
and Commuters: A History of Scarsdale; and

WHEREAS, The Junior League of Central Westchester, in continuance of
its mission, established the Westchester County Diaper Bank, which works
with the Westchester County Department of Social Services and other
community partners to ensure babies across the county receive diapers;
over 1,000,000 diapers and wipes have been distributed into the
community across Westchester County; these efforts have expanded to
address needs through the global pandemic and through natural and
unnatural disaster relief efforts when supplies are available; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional organization and its role in improving the
quality of life in its community, fully confident that it will continue
to enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Junior League of Central
Westchester; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Junior League of Central Westchester.
