COMMENDING Purchase College, State University of
New York upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th
Commencement on May 20, 2022

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those exemplary institutions of higher education within the
State of New York for their enduring commitment to the pursuit of
academic excellence; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Purchase College, State University of New York upon the occasion
of celebrating its 50th Commencement on Friday, May 20, 2022; and

WHEREAS, During this auspicious occasion, The Honorable Amina J.
Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, and Kevin Young,
Director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History
and Culture will be presented with Honorary Doctoral Degree Awards; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Corina Larkin, Class of 2006, writer, painter,
and former Executive Director of the Cue Art Foundation, will be
recognized with the President's Distinguished Alumni Award; and

WHEREAS, Located in the center of 500 acres of open fields and
sprawling forests, about 30 miles north of New York City, Purchase
College, State University of New York remains true to its mission by
bringing together students in the liberal arts, sciences, and
conservatory arts programs in a vibrant, creative community where
in-depth knowledge grows from open-minded engagement, questioning
boundaries, and inspiring possibility; and

WHEREAS, As of the Fall of 2021, total student enrollment was 3,446
undergraduate students and 83 graduate students, roughly 83% of whom are
New York residents; the remainder come from 40 states and 24 foreign
countries; and

WHEREAS, These students are offered 47 majors, 32 minors, four
graduate majors, artist diplomas and performers certificates; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the visionary guidance of President Dr.
Milagros Pena, Purchase College, State University of New York stands
proud and prominent, always looking to the future and the needs of those
it serves; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Purchase College, State University of New York upon the occasion
of celebrating its 50th Commencement on May 20, 2022; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Milagros Pena, President, Purchase College, State
University of New York.
