CONGRATULATING Mildred Alice Sorrentino upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Mildred Alice Sorrentino upon the occasion of her 100th
Birthday to be celebrated on July 21, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Alice, affectionately known as Millie, was born on
July 21, 1922, at home on her family's farm in Varick, New York, to
Seeley and Neva Frankenfield; she grew up with four siblings: Howard,
Dorothy, Clifford and Ruth; and

WHEREAS, Having grown up during the Great Depression, Mildred Alice
Frankenfield was no stranger to hard work; the entire family worked on
the farm and considered themselves fortunate to have enough to eat
during that difficult time; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from Romulus High School in 1940, where
she played three sports (basketball, softball and track), Mildred
studied cosmetology in Binghamton, New York; in 1941, she received her
license to practice in New York State, and worked as a hair stylist in
Binghamton and later in Ithaca; and

WHEREAS, In February of 1945, Mildred married the love of her life,
Lewis Sorrentino, in Tampa, Florida where he proudly served as a
Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; at
the end of the war, the couple returned to Fayette, New York, and
purchased the home where Mildred continues to reside; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Alice Sorrentino worked as a cosmetologist for four
years, and later as a part-time clerk at the Fayette Post Office, a
position she held for over 25 years until her retirement; and

WHEREAS, For over 50 years, Mildred Alice Sorrentino gave tirelessly
of her time and energies to the Fayette Volunteer Fire Department, where
her husband served as a member for more than 70 years; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Mildred, along with her husband, served as the unofficial
historians for the Village of Fayette, providing information and old
photographs to authors and other individuals seeking to learn about its
history; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Alice Sorrentino has always loved playing cards,
and continues to play bid euchre every week with a group of friends in
Clifton Springs, New York; for several years she was a member of the
Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, where she and her husband regularly played
cards with friends; and

WHEREAS, Lewis and Mildred Sorrentino were happily married for
nearly 64 years; upon retirement in 1985, they traveled extensively and
spent a good deal of time volunteering for worthy causes until his death
in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Having taken classes in tailoring, Mildred has enjoyed
sewing clothes for herself and other family members over the years; in
addition, she enjoys baking delicious pies and confections; and

WHEREAS, Mildred is a passionate fan of college basketball,
especially Syracuse University, as well as professional baseball; she
spends hours watching games and discussing the outcomes with her
friends; and

WHEREAS, Mildred Alice Sorrentino has truly inspired and enhanced
the lives of her family and friends; she is the proud mother of three
daughters, Sandra Mitchell, Rosemary Nozzolio and Sharon Hogan;
sons-in-law, Wilson "Bud" Mitchell, former New York State Senator
Michael Nozzolio, and Greg Hogan (deceased); Millie is a loving
grandmother to Dr. Megan Mitchell (Dr. Al Barth), Kristin Robinson (Tane
Robinson), Erin Battistello (Marco Battistello), Kayleigh Hogan and
Emily Hogan; as well as a loving great-grandmother to Jacob Barth,
Samuel Barth, Colbey Barth, Mitchell Robinson, Hanna Robinson, Marco
Battistello and Nicholas Battistello; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mildred Alice Sorrentino upon the occasion of celebrating
her 100th Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mildred Alice Sorrentino.
