LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Lillian Jacobs, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Lillian Jacobs, a resident of East 84th Street for 100 years,
died on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at the age of 102; and
WHEREAS, At the age of two, Lillian Jacobs moved to the block from the
Lower East Side with her parents, Louis and Anna Rosenblatt, who were
immigrant Jews from Austria and Russia; she attended the now closed PS
96; and
WHEREAS, The Rosenblatts were the proprietors of a candy shop, also
located on East 84th Street, which was a mainstay of the community; and
WHEREAS, In 1931, Lillian married George Jacobs and eventually the
couple moved into their own apartment in the same building as her
parents; they later moved to a larger apartment where they raised two
loving daughters; and
WHEREAS, Lillian Jacobs distinguished herself in her profession and by
her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
her community; she worked for many years as Assistant to the Principal
at Ramaz, where she was a vital support to the faculty, parents and
students of the school; and
WHEREAS, Lillian Jacobs resided in five different addresses on the
same block during her century of residence there; her husband passed
away in 2004, after 72 wonderful years of marriage; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Lillian Jacobs leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all she
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Lillian Jacobs, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Lillian Jacobs.
