LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Vice Chancellor Milton L. Cofield for 10
years of distinguished service as Regent to Judicial District VII

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the Empire State who have made
strong contributions to their communities and who inspire others through
their model citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Vice Chancel-
lor Milton L. Cofield for 10 years of distinguished service as Regent to
Judicial District VII, to be celebrated on Saturday, February 18, 2012,
in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Currently serving in his last term before stepping down,
Milton Cofield was originally elected to a five-year term as the Regent
for the Seventh Judicial District on April 1, 2002 and reelected to a
second five-year term through March 31, 2012; he was elected Vice Chan-
cellor by his colleagues effective April 1, 2009 and reelected to a
three-year term effective April 1, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Cofield was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana,
and educated in the public school system there; he graduated from South-
ern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Chemistry, magna cum laude, in 1973; and
WHEREAS, Milton Cofield attended graduate school at the University of
Illinois and received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1979; he moved
to Rochester, New York and began his career as a physical scientist in
the research laboratories of the Eastman Kodak Company in 1979; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Milton Cofield was awarded the M.B.A. degree in
Finance from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School; in 1991, he
was appointed assistant to the President of SUNY College at Brockport,
New York, and also served as Executive Director of the Rochester Educa-
tional Opportunity Center; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Vice Chancellor Cofield was named the James E.
McGhee Distinguished Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology;
in 2000, he was appointed Fulbright Senior Scholar in the Graduate
Institute of Technology and Innovation Management at National Chengchi
University in Taipei, Taiwan, and also a Fulbright American Studies
Professor at De LaSalle University at Manila, Philippines; and
WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor Cofield's professional interests include
management of technology and innovation, higher education adminis-
tration, and international management and education; Vice Chancellor
Cofield is currently Executive Director for Undergraduate Business
Administration in the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon
University; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Milton Cofield's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vice Chancellor Milton L. Cofield for 10 years of distinguished
service as Regent to Judicial District VII; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Milton L. Cofield.
