LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter John Wright upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition after 60 years of dedi-
cated service to the Averill Park - Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter John
Wright upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 60 years of dedicated service to the Averill Park - Sand Lake
Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, John Wright will be honored by the Averill Park - Sand Lake
Volunteer Fire Department for his long and dedicated service to the
company over the past 60 years at its Installation Dinner on Saturday,
May 4, 2013; and
WHEREAS, John Wright joined the Fire Company in 1953; for 25 years he
was a First Responder and Interior Firefighter; he has also ably served
as President of the Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, When John Wright ceased serving as a First Responder he dedi-
cated his time to administrative duties for the Company; to this day, at
age 90, he serves as a fundraiser for the company by assisting in
putting on the company Poker Tournaments; and
WHEREAS, John Wright is a proud veteran of World War II; as a member
of the U.S. Eighth Air Force, he was stationed in England for several
years as a member of the ground staff who kept the B-17s flying; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; John
Wright is such a firefighter; throughout 60 years of devoted service, he
has heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty, those
responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter John Wright for 60 years of distinguished service to
the Averill Park - Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department and his communi-
ty; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Wright.
