LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Kingsborough Community College of
Brooklyn, New York, upon the occasion of being ranked the third best
community college nationwide

WHEREAS, The State of New York is renowned for its centuries-old tradi-
tion of excellence and diversity in education and for the place of para-
mount importance which education holds for the people of the State; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of commitment and high achievement, such as Kings-
borough Community College, whose purpose and endeavor are dedicated to
the pursuit of excellence in education and service to its community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Kingsborough Community College of Brooklyn, New York, upon the occasion
of being ranked the third best community college nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Located on Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, Kingsborough Community
College has been recognized as the third best community college in the
country by the Aspen Institute, a leading philanthropic think tank; the
institution ranked above a pool of more than 1,000 community colleges
across the country because of its high rate of transfers to four-year
schools among its largely minority student base; and
WHEREAS, Sixty percent of Kingsborough Community College's students
transfer to four-year colleges, which is more than double the 26%
national average; the Aspen Institute reviewed every college's gradu-
ation rate-especially among minority and low-income students along with
the number of students who found jobs after graduating; and
WHEREAS, Kingsborough Community College students earn a desirable
income five years after graduating; in addition, 61% of first-time
students receive national Pell grants, and 64% of the 39,000 students
annually are people of color; and
WHEREAS, Kingsborough Community College may take just pride in its
history of quality leadership, teaching, achievement and community
support, acquiring special accomplishments, and bequeathing a legacy of
excellence and service for present and future generations; and
WHEREAS, Kingsborough Community College stands prepared to reach out
in earnest and enthusiastic quest of its mission, proudly aware of its
history and planning with vision and purpose to meet the challenges of
the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kingsborough Community College of Brooklyn, New York, upon the
occasion of being ranked the third best community college nationwide;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kingsborough Community College.
