2012

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring, concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, remaining calm
under pressure, in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of human life are cherished values,
worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is proud to honor an indi-
vidual who would serve to protect it, lauding particularly one who would
clearly endanger his own life and safety on behalf of that cause; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dennis Daly in
recognition of his heroic action in rescuing a young woman from a vehi-
cle crash on November 26, 2012; and
WHEREAS, On Monday, November 26, 2012, a young woman who was on her
way to class at SUNY Adirondack lost control of her car after hitting
some black ice on Call Street in Lake Luzerne, New York; and
WHEREAS, Warren County Department of Public Works employee Dennis
Daly, who was part of a crew that was salting and sanding Call Street in
Lake Luzerne that Monday, came across the vehicle on its passenger side
just off the pavement; and
WHEREAS, He noticed that smoke was pouring from the car's engine, and
the driver was unable to get out because her seat belt was stuck; and
WHEREAS, Without hesitation or concern for his own safety, Dennis Daly
instinctually ran to the burning car while his co-workers stopped traf-
fic on each side of the road; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Daly tried the driver-side door, but it would not
open, so he entered the car through a back door; he helped the woman out
of the car and even went back for her purse; only minutes later, the car
burst into flames; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Daly should be meritoriously commended for remaining
calm under pressure and for showing valor and true courage while
performing a lifesaving deed; and
WHEREAS, Through his spontaneous and heroic actions, Dennis Daly
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of ordi-
nary citizens across the community of New York State who voluntarily
respond without the thought of danger or reward when others are in need
of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dennis Daly in recognition of his heroic action in rescuing a
young woman from a vehicle crash on November 26, 2012; and be it further
