LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rose Hosp upon the occasion of being
named the 2013 Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rose
Hosp upon the occasion of being named the 2013 Senior Citizen Volunteer
of the Year, to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Older
American Awards Ceremony and Dinner, in New York Mills, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rose Hosp is a native of Utica, New York, and currently
resides in Barneveld; a UFA graduate, she received her B.A. degree from
Utica College and her M.A. degree from Middlebury College; before her
retirement in 1998, she taught Spanish for 34 years in the Holland
Patent School system, and after retirement she continued teaching for
seven years as an Adjunct Professor at Utica College; and
WHEREAS, Volunteering is a passion of Rose Hosp; for 12 years she has
been a volunteer facilitator at MVILR; she not only leads the Choral
Group at the Parkway Senior Center, but she also volunteers at Hope
House; and
WHEREAS, Rose Hosp has served a lifetime of singing and organist for
church choirs; seven years with the BARBershoppee Bells; and three years
with the Rose Garden Ensemble; she has been volunteering for the Utica
Boilermakers for over 30 years and also has run in 33 races; and
WHEREAS, For 14 years Rose Hosp has been a docent at Munson Williams
Proctor Institute, and she is currently serving as Treasurer for the
Barneveld Public Library; and
WHEREAS, Rose Hosp is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, where she
participated in seven different trips, including Anchorage, Alaska, and
in Central America where building homes was done without power tools and
working in extremely hot weather; during these trips she volunteered to
be an interpreter for the native people; she uses her interpretation
skills through her volunteer commitment to "Friends of Olopa" in the
small village of Olopa, Guatemala; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Rose Hosp has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Jack, and their
son, daughter-in-law and grandson, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rose Hosp upon the occasion of being named the 2013 Senior Citizen
Volunteer of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rose Hosp.
