LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music
upon the occasion of hosting its Music Partners Program's 25th Anniver-
sary Celebration Concert

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those musical organizations that have brought entertainment and
cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music upon the occasion of hosting its
Music Partners Program's 25th Anniversary Celebration Concert on May 18,
2013; and
WHEREAS, On this special day, 300 elementary age students from the
Brooklyn Conservatory of Music's partner schools will perform on the
steps of the Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza for friends,
family, and community members; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has strived to make music
accessible to all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels; Music Partners
was established in 1988 to widen the Conservatory's reach and enhance
music education in public schools throughout Brooklyn and Queens; today
it has programs in 31 schools and community centers, serving 4,600
students; and
WHEREAS, The Conservatory students represent 42 nationalities, speak
more than 30 languages, and are of diverse ethnicities, abilities, and
skills; of the 4,600 students it serves, 70% live at or below the pover-
ty line, and all attend schools that lack music programs; and
WHEREAS, Through Music Partners, the Conservatory partners with
schools to fill this artistic gap; what makes this program unique is
that the Conservatory works closely with each school to create a sequen-
tial, weekly music curriculum tailored to the school's specific needs;
and
WHEREAS, Students who participate in this program acquire the confi-
dence to tackle difficult subjects, and build a strong work ethic and
sense of teamwork and skills which transfer to the future workplace; and
WHEREAS, Music study is most worthy of being encouraged and promoted,
as it provides an opportunity for students to exhibit their skills to an
audience, thereby giving them self-esteem to last a lifetime; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music upon the occasion of hosting
its Music Partners Program's 25th Anniversary Celebration Concert; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
