LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Maureen McTigue upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Poppenhusen Institute

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Maureen McTigue upon the occasion of her designation for special recog-
nition by the Poppenhusen Institute, to be celebrated at its Spring
Dinner on Saturday, May 11, 2013, in College Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, Maureen McTigue has been a member of the Poppenhusen communi-
ty since joining the Ki Do Kwan martial arts group over 10 years ago;
after training for some years, she was asked to take over the children's
martial arts and body movement program and has served in that role for
over five years; and
WHEREAS, Twice a week, Maureen McTigue enthusiastically instructed the
youth in various Asian modalities, exposing them to different cultures;
through her disciplined instructions, the participants developed mental-
ly, physically, and spiritually, benefiting them not only in the work-
shop, but also in their schoolwork and in everyday life; and
WHEREAS, Maureen McTigue's involvement at the Institute was all encom-
passing; she truly became a Poppenhusen team member by participating in
numerous annual events, including marching each year in the College
Point Memorial Day Parade, joining with her students on her time off to
demonstrate Tae Kwan Do and Tai Chi techniques to the patients at the
local nursing homes, and participating in the Poppenhusen Institute's
Haunted House event; and
WHEREAS, Maureen McTigue is presently a teacher in New York City,
after having worked in pop culture publishing for some time; she is an
accomplished traveler and photographer and this summer will hold an
exhibit, alongside an old college friend, of photos from around the
world; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Maureen McTigue's distinguished
record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Maureen McTigue upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Poppenhusen Institute; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Maureen McTigue.
