LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Carol Ryan upon the occasion of her
designation as a recipient of the 2013 Woman of Achievement Award by the
YWCA of Schenectady

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Carol Ryan upon the occasion of her designation as a recipient of the
2013 Woman of Achievement Award by the YWCA of Schenectady; and
WHEREAS, Carol Ryan received this most prestigious honor at the 30th
Annual Women of Achievement Celebration on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at
Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia, New York; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Carol Ryan has been called
upon to contribute her time and talents to countless endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Carol Ryan began her career as an environmental specialist
after earning a bachelor's degree in biology from Clarkson University;
during her 20 years with General Electric, she has held roles of
increasing responsibility; she started as an Environmental Health and
Safety (EHS) Specialist and was later promoted to program manager where
she provided guidance to 120 service locations; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Carol Ryan became the Apparatus and Service Division
EHS leader; over the next seven years, she built a world class training
team that developed digital training solutions that were translated into
17 languages and utilized throughout the organization; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Carol Ryan was promoted to the role of EHS leader
for Global Research; in this role, she leads a diverse global team of
EHS professionals from Germany, India, China, US, and Brazil; they are
responsible for all aspects of environmental compliance and safety in a
complex R&D environment; and
WHEREAS, Carol Ryan also leads Junior Achievement activities for GEGR
where she provides leadership for volunteerism in the classroom, Student
Job Shadow, and other Junior Achievement events; she is active in her
church and has led the fundraising committee for St. Jude the Apostle
School for nine years; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Jake, and their
children Allyson, Conor and Shannon, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Carol Ryan has continually demonstrated extreme competence,
extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in her unwavering
service to her community and profession; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Carol Ryan upon the occasion of her designation as a recipient
of the 2013 Woman of Achievement Award by the YWCA of Schenectady; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carol Ryan.
