LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Carole Merrill Mazurek upon the occa-
sion of her designation as a recipient of the 2013 President's Circle
Award by the YWCA of Schenectady

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Carole Merrill Mazurek upon the occasion of her designation as a recipi-
ent of the 2013 President's Circle Award by the YWCA of Schenectady; and
WHEREAS, Carole Merrill Mazurek received this most prestigious honor
at the 30th Annual Women of Achievement Celebration on Thursday, April
18, 2013, at Glen Sanders Mansion in Scotia, New York; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Carole Merrill Mazurek has
been called upon to contribute her time and talents to countless endeav-
ors and has always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Carole Merrill Mazurek was employed at the YWCA of Schenecta-
dy as the Director of Services to Women and Families; she has 25 years
of professional experience as administrator of a comprehensive service
for women and children, with special emphasis on services for crime
victims and housing; and
WHEREAS, Experienced in grant writing, grant management, and program
development, Carole Merrill Mazurek is an accomplished community organ-
izer, working with various community coalitions and task forces relating
to systemic change and program areas; she has had leadership roles in
various community coalitions and task forces that address homelessness,
abuse and human rights issues; and
WHEREAS, Carole Merrill Mazurek participated in various New York State
workgroups to re-write NYS Domestic Abuse Regulations for Programs,
develop Domestic Abuse Program Volunteer Manuals and development of
funding strategy for a New York State Foundation; in retirement, she is
developing "Caroline's Legacy", her own creation of watercolor paintings
and prints; and
WHEREAS, A recipient of the 2002 Liberty Bell Award and the 2005 Hope-
line Award, Carole Merrill Mazurek both earned her B.A. degree in Soci-
ology, and took graduate courses in Sociology and Psychology at SUNY
Albany; and
WHEREAS, Carole Merrill Mazurek has continually demonstrated extreme
competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in her
unwavering service to her community and profession; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Carole Merrill Mazurek upon the occasion of her designation as a
recipient of the 2013 President's Circle Award by the YWCA of Schenecta-
dy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carole Merrill Mazurek.
