LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Monsignor Adolph Kantor upon the occa-
sion of celebrating the 70th Anniversary of his Ordination to the

WHEREAS, The spiritual guidance and nurturing of the citizens of the
State of New York are of great importance to the vitality and well-being
of our communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recog-
nition and just tribute to those men and women of religious commitment
who accept the responsibility of moral leadership and render the wisdom
of human understanding; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Monsignor Adolph Kantor upon the occasion of celebrating the 70th Anni-
versary of his Ordination to the Priesthood on May 25-26, 2013; and
WHEREAS, In addition, a special Mass will be held in his honor on
Sunday, July 7, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Kantor is a resident at St. Joseph's Nursing Home
in Utica, New York; he is truly remarkable and through 70 years of
active ministry, he always worked tirelessly seeking to help others
whether it was visiting the sick, attending wakes or praying over
people; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Kantor grew up in New York Mills and graduated from
New York Mills High School in June of 1932; for the next two years, he
was a student at St. John Kanty Prep School in Erie, Pennsylvania,
before attending St. Bernard's and completing his seminary studies; and
WHEREAS, Following his ordination on June 5, 1943, Monsignor Kantor
served as associate pastor for Sacred Heart in Syracuse from 1943 until
1948, and was at Holy Trinity in Utica from 1948 to 1956; he enjoyed
working within the local communities and served as chaplain to the Utica
Police Department in 1956 and as chaplain at Utica College from 1960 to
1963; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor Kantor was appointed associate pastor at Blessed
Sacrament in Syracuse from 1956 to 1960 and at his hometown parish, St.
Mary's, from 1960 to 1962; in February of 1962, he was named pastor at
St. Joseph's in Oriskany Falls; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, Monsignor Kantor was appointed pastor of St.
Stephen's in Syracuse until 1967, and then to Transfiguration in Rome
from 1967 to 1970; in 1968, he served on the Diocesan Board of Consul-
tors; and
WHEREAS, On December 21, 1971, Monsignor Kantor was named Honorary
Prelate to Pope Paul VI; he served at Sacred Heart in Syracuse as pastor
from 1970 to 1989, when he retired and returned to Utica and celebrated
Mass at his home parish of St. Mary's until he was 96 years old; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention, it
is appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Monsignor Adolph Kantor upon the occasion of celebrating the
70th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Monsignor Adolph Kantor.
