LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Isaiah Moore upon the occasion of being
named the Mount Vernon Boys & Girls Club 2013 Youth of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Isaiah Moore upon the occasion of being named the Mount Vernon Boys &
Girls Club Youth of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys &
Girls Club member can receive; the nomination recognizes outstanding
contributions to a member's family, school, community and Boys & Girls
Club, as well as overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; the hono-
rees are shining examples and living proof that great futures start at
Boys & Girls Clubs; and
WHEREAS, Isaiah Moore has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club of
Mount Vernon for 11 years, joining when he was just six years-old; and
WHEREAS, Born with Spina Bifida, Isaiah Moore is paralyzed from the
legs down and is in a wheelchair; he was not sure the Club would or
could meet his needs; and
WHEREAS, For the past 11 years, Isaiah Moore has overcome his obsta-
cles and has become a valuable member of the Club; he attends the Club
daily upon leaving school, and is a participant in many of its programs,
including: Passport to Manhood, a prevention program for pre-teen and
teen boys; Social Recreation Game room activities which promotes sports-
manship; Power Hour, a homework assistance program; Project Learn, an
educational philosophy; Smart Moves, a prevention program for pre-teens;
and Triple Play, a fitness program which emphasizes mind, body and soul;
WHEREAS, After ensuring his own homework is finished, he sits at the
front desk and welcomes all of the youth as they visit the Club; Isaiah
helps the young children do their homework and then helps to work with
the youth in the gym during all of the activities; and
WHEREAS, As he has gotten older, Isaiah Moore has taken on a leader-
ship role; he has volunteered at the Club for more than 1,200 hours in
each of the past two years, and is currently the head coach and mentor
of the under 13 basketball team; and
WHEREAS, In addition to providing service to the Club, Isaiah Moore
also serves his community in many ways; during the holidays, he helps
feed senior citizens through a program run by his church, Emmanuel
Pentecostal Faith Temple; and
WHEREAS, Isaiah Moore also videotapes the church services and volun-
teers with the Mount Vernon High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team
where he videotapes all the games for the coaching staff; furthermore,
he videotaped a Historically Black College Fair held at the Club; and
WHEREAS, Isaiah Moore is currently a senior at Nellie A. Thornton High
School; in the fall, he will be attending the University of Missouri,
and will be a member of its Wheelchair Basketball Team; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Isaiah Moore upon the occasion of being named the Mount Vernon
Boys & Girls Club 2013 Youth of the Year; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Isaiah Moore.
