LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Joseph A. Cuozzo upon the occasion
of his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, The son of Gabriel and Margaret Cuozzo, Joseph A. Cuozzo was
born in Herkimer, New York in 1913; his parents subsequently moved the
family to Fonda, New York, where he attended Fonda Fultonville Schools
and was active in the Fonda Men's Baseball and Basketball leagues; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Cuozzo moved to Amsterdam, New York after his
marriage to Roberta Wilmot Cuozzo in 1954; he and his wife of 59 years
are the proud parents of three children, James Cuozzo, Josanne Reaves,
and Michelle Cuozzo, and the loving grandparents of three grandchildren,
Cara Reaves, Toren Reaves and Brennan Reaves; and
WHEREAS, He was, in addition, predeceased by a brother, Anthony and a
sister Mary Ann; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Cuozzo worked in construction for several years work-
ing on many county and state paving construction jobs before serving as
a City Clerk in the city of Amsterdam from 1970 through 1974; he was
also a Committeeman in Amsterdam's Fifth Ward for more than 40 years;
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Cuozzo also served as the Treasurer and President
of the JFK Club in Amsterdam for several years and was active in Mont-
gomery County politics; and
WHEREAS, He enjoys working outdoors and gardening and has been a life-
long fan of both harness and thoroughbred horse racing at Saratoga
Springs, New York; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Cuozzo's home has been the Mohawk Valley for his
entire life and he is justly proud to have never missed voting on an
election day; and
WHEREAS, He has voted in 14 Presidential elections since Herbert
Hoover's election in 1933 and in 13 Gubernatorial elections in New York
State since Franklin Roosevelt's election in 1932; and
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Cuozzo is known as a solid family man who has never
been afraid of hard work; he has survived six wars, a great depression,
and the advent of talking pictures; he has watched 79 Kentucky Derbies
and, of New York State's population of 19.57 million, he is one of only
4,605 people statewide who is a member of the Centenarian Club; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man, who has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the lives of his
many friends and family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Joseph A. Cuozzo upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph A. Cuozzo.
