LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Overseer Dorothy Wright upon the occa-
sion of her 50th Pastoral Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to bring full recogni-
tion and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Overseer
Dorothy Wright upon the occasion of her 50th Pastoral Anniversary, to be
celebrated on October 20, 2012, at the Brooklyn Marriott Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Holt's education began in the segregated South, where
she attended the J.C. Price Elementary School in Greensboro, North Caro-
lina; upon her completion, she attended The James B. Dudley High School
and later reflected on the childcare courses that were her favorites and
would be the foundation that would serve her well later in life; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Holt's higher education began at North Carolina's
Agricultural and Technical College; while attending A&T, she met and
fell in love with Carson Chester Wright whom she later married; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Wright left North Carolina's Agricultural and Techni-
cal College to complete her studies at the Maco Beauty College of
Greensboro, North Carolina; she graduated from Maco as a beautician and
after graduation, she worked as a beautician in Greensboro until she
eventually left the state of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy and Chester Wright moved to Providence, Rhode Island,
and then to Brooklyn, New York, where Chester worked for the NYC Police
Department; from the inception of her pastorship, in 1962, Overseer
Wright's vision for St. Paul Pentecostal Church is to be a thoroughly
biblical church that passionately seeks God's manifested presence and
leadership; and
WHEREAS, Overseer Wright helps people improve their relationship with
God and each other; in so doing, she has dedicated her ministry to
making a difference in the Brownsville community by impacting and
rebuilding individuals and families both naturally and spiritually; and
WHEREAS, Throughout Overseer Wright's 50 years of ministry, her desire
is to help people strengthen their families and marriages; St. Paul
Pentecostal Church has conducted numerous outreach programs geared
towards building, improving, and enhancing the quality of life for the
Ocean-Hill Brownsville community; and
WHEREAS, Overseer Wright's great love for children became the influen-
tial factor in many of the outreach programs; she knew that in order to
invest in the future of her community, she had to be concerned with
developing educationally empowered youth who have a dedicated life of
holiness in God; and
WHEREAS, From 1965-1970, St. Paul Pentecostal hosted the Summer Day
Camp Youth In Action program which gave inner city youth an opportunity
to participate in academic enrichments, and arts and crafts activities,
along with community trips, in order to enhance their summer vacation;
this had also allotted job opportunities for the teenagers who were
qualified to work; and
WHEREAS, During the 1980s, St. Paul Summer Academy focused on giving
inner city youth reading and math enrichment as well as computer skills
in order to provide the growing technological skills in which, at the
time, many community children had not yet received; and
WHEREAS, For over 20 years, St. Paul Pentecostal has given children
tutorial assistance in math and reading; with the growing emphasis on
reading and math standardized tests, as well as high school regents
exams; St. Paul's Tutorial Program has given students not only proper

techniques and strategies, but also the confidence necessary to master
the requirements needed for testing success; in addition, other programs
such as Boys and Girls Scouts, Little League and Sewing Clubs have also
contributed enriching the lives of inner city youth; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman of God has always given enlight-
enment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to her care and has
administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and corporal
needs of all; and
WHEREAS, Along with her husband, with her throughout have been their
children, Carson, Paul and Pamela, as well as their grandchildren,
Carnelia and Toni, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life
and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Overseer Dorothy Wright upon the occasion of her 50th Pastoral
Anniversary, noting her unremitting and compassionate faith and her
exemplary service to God, man, and her community, and extending to her
the heartfelt best wishes of this Legislative Body for a future of
purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Overseer Dorothy Wright.
