LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate Andrew
Keith Doss upon the occasion of his retirement from the United States
Navy after 26 years of dedicated military service

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon this Legislative Body to recognize those
remarkable individuals who have honorably and courageously served their
country in order to protect the life and liberty of our citizens, and
whose military service, professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate Andrew Keith Doss upon the occasion of his
retirement from the United States Navy after 26 years of dedicated mili-
tary service; he officially retired at a ceremony held on September 8,
2012; and
WHEREAS, Senior Chief Doss, a 1985 graduate of Bishop Grimes High
School in Syracuse, New York, reported for active military duty in Octo-
ber of 1986; and
WHEREAS, After successfully completing his training, Senior Chief Doss
effectively served aboard the USS Savannah from 1987 to 1989, before
reporting to the Naval Reserve Center in Syracuse, which is now named
the Navy Operational Support Center Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, In February of 2003, Senior Chief Doss was mobilized and
deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of operations Iraqi Freedom,
Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom; he served aboard the SS Cape Gibson
and the USNS Kilauea, leading the Cargo Afloat Rig Team (CART), as his
team provided fuel and ordnance in replenishment operations; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Senior Chief Doss joined the staff at Syracuse
University, and in 2001, he assumed his current role as Veterans' Advi-
sor of Syracuse University's Veterans Resource Center; as a veterans'
advisor, Senior Chief Doss has met with countless students and veterans
regarding their educational benefits, and has collaborated with Syracuse
University on various veterans' issues; and
WHEREAS, Over his distinguished military career, Senior Chief Doss has
received several promotions as a result of his exemplary work; he was
promoted to First Class Petty Officer in 1995, Chief Petty Officer in
1998, and Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2001; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his many outstanding contributions, Senior
Chief Doss has been granted numerous military awards: Navy and Marine
Corps Achievement Medal, Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal,
National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary
Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Battle E Ribbon, and Navy Sea
Service Ribbon; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his accomplished career, Senior Chief Doss has had
the continued support of his proud family, which includes his wife,
Karyn, and their three wonderful children Rebecca, Danielle and Adam,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Senior Chief Doss was governed by a
sense of loyalty, duty and honor, allowing him to be a natural leader
within his country and his community at-large; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause to hereby honor and recog-
nize Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate Andrew Keith Doss upon the occasion
of his retirement from the United States Navy after 26 years of dedi-
cated military service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate Andrew Keith Doss, United
States Navy.
