LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Steven G. Pavlakis upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Medical Leadership Award by the
Aleh Foundation

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Steven G.
Pavlakis upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Medical Leadership Award by the Aleh Foundation, to be celebrated at its
29th Anniversary Awards Dinner Ceremony on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at
the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Steven G. Pavlakis has dedicated his life to serve the
disabled population and has been deeply moved by the wonderful work done
at the Aleh Centers; he is Director for the Center for Brain and Behav-
ior at Maimonides Infants and Children's Hospital, and is Professor of
Neurology and Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Pavlakis earned both his BS degree in biology and an MD
at Brown University; he later completed his Pediatric and Neurology
training at Colombia-Presbyterian Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Pavlakis is board certified in pediatrics,
neurology with special competency in pediatric neurology, and neurode-
velopment disabilities; he was appointed the chief scientific officer of
the Maimonides Medical Center which included a fully functional animal
laboratory, wet labs, and a clinical trials unit; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Pavlakis was a founding member of the International
Pediatric Stroke Study (IPSS), a data set that has enrolled over 2000
stroke children; his recent interests involve pediatric hypertension and
the effects on the vasculature; he has over 100 publications and has
chaired National Institutes of Health study sections and has often
served as a consultant to government, public and private agencies; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dr. Steven G. Pavlakis' distin-
guished record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Steven G. Pavlakis upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Medical Leadership Award by the Aleh Foundation; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Steven G. Pavlakis.
