LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicholas D. Latrenta upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service to MetLife,
Inc., and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nicholas D. Latrenta upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to MetLife, Inc., and the Metropolitan
Life Insurance Company; and
WHEREAS, For the past 43 years, Nicholas D. Latrenta rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service to MetLife, Inc., and the Metro-
politan Life Insurance Company; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas D. Latrenta has been dedicated to the law, business
and the people of the State of New York and has achieved great personal
and professional success; and
WHEREAS, During his more than four decades of service, Nicholas D.
Latrenta brought tremendous skill and insight to the success of the
institution and for the betterment of New York and its consumers; and
WHEREAS, As executive vice-president and general counsel of MetLife,
Inc., and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Nicholas D. Latrenta was
responsible for leading the company's global legal operations, oversee-
ing the corporate secretary's office, internal audit, government and
industry relations department and the corporate ethics and compliance
group; and
WHEREAS, This illustrious leader advised the MetLife board of direc-
tors and management on corporate governance and business operations; he
is also a member of the board of directors of American Life Insurance
Company; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas D. Latrenta has held various positions within
MetLife prior to becoming general counsel, playing a vital role in the
success of MetLife as one of New York's leading companies as well as
overseeing international operations for insurance operations in 11 coun-
tries outside of the United States; and
WHEREAS, A leader in New York's insurance industry, Nicholas D.
Latrenta served as a member of the board of directors of the Life Insur-
ance Company Guaranty Corporation of New York; in this capacity, he led
the industry's efforts to put together a liquidation plan for Executive
Life Insurance Company of New York that best resolves its remaining
obligations; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated member of his community, Nicholas D. Latrenta has
been a longtime supporter of education at his alma mater law school,
Seton Hall, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as numerous disabled
veterans organizations and various disaster relief activities of his
church; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Nicholas D. Latrenta was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems,
earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicholas D. Latrenta upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service to MetLife, Inc., and the Metropol-
itan Life Insurance Company; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas D. Latrenta.
