LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ronald F. Foley upon the occasion of his
retirement as Director of the Long Island Region of the New York State
Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Ronald F. Foley has rendered faithful, conscientious and
valuable service to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation; he has served as Director of the Long Island
Region with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ronald F. Foley upon the occasion of his retirement as Director of the
Long Island Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated on
Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Carlyle on the Green in the Bethpage State
Park Clubhouse; and
WHEREAS, From 2007 to 2013, Ronald F. Foley served as Director of the
Long Island Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation; and
WHEREAS, As Regional Director, Ronald F. Foley oversaw Long Island's
33,000 acres of open space, natural areas and recreational facilities,
including 100 miles of shoreline; and
WHEREAS, During Ronald F. Foley's tenure as Director of the Long
Island Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and
Historic Preservation, in 2009, the Bethpage State Park's Black Course
hosted the U.S. Open National Golf Championship; and
WHEREAS, From 1983 to 1995, Ronald F. Foley was employed by the New
York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; he
served as Executive Deputy Commissioner; he also served as General
Manager of the Long Island Region and Regional Director of the Genesee
Region, administering all aspects of the parks In those areas of the
state; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ronald F. Foley served as Commissioner of the
Suffolk County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation; in that
capacity, he was responsible for the management of over 50,000 acres of
parkland including historic structures, golf facilities and oceanfront
beaches; his notable achievements included environmental stewardship for
preservation and protection of open space; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ronald F. Foley served as Executive Director of
the New York Parks and Conservation Association, an organization focus-
ing on the protection of parkland and assisting communities in creating
new parks; he also served as Deputy Commissioner for the Department of
Public Works and as Deputy Director and Chief of Staff in the Mayor's
Office of Management and Budget in the City of Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, In all his official acts, Ronald F. Foley was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
and
WHEREAS, Ronald F. Foley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public
Administration from the University of New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Ronald F. Foley
upon his retirement as Director of the Long Island Region of the New
York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure as Director of the Long Island Region of
the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation

and throughout his previous years of public service, Ronald F. Foley
earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ronald F. Foley upon the occasion of his retirement as Director of
the Long Island Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation
and Historic Preservation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ronald F. Foley.
