LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Rockville
Centre Boy Scout Troop 40 of the Theodore Roosevelt Council on June 7,

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations that are devoted to instilling in youth
the values of community service and civic responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Rockville Centre Boy Scout Troop 40 of
the Theodore Roosevelt Council, to be celebrated at a Centennial Dinner
on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at St. Agnes Parish Center, Rockville Centre,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America has
provided boys and young men the opportunities to learn skills and to
take part in adventures; a Scout learns to camp and hike, and how to
live in the outdoors; a Scout also learns about the world around us and
studies citizenship in the community, in the Nation, and in the world;
WHEREAS, In addition, scouting gives a boy the experiences and respon-
sibilities to help him mature as a strong and confident adult; scouting
is a doorway to lifelong friendships; and
WHEREAS, The 100-year history of Troop 40 catalogues and records an
unremitting commitment to the ideals of honor and duty; and
WHEREAS, Over the past Century, Rockville Centre Boy Scout Troop 40
has developed a proud history, and has maintained the traditional values
of Scouting; the troop has been extremely active in the community by
providing many Eagle and community service projects; and
WHEREAS, Only four percent of Boy Scouts nationwide achieve the
distinguished rank of Eagle Scout; Boy Scout Troop 40 is the home of the
first Eagle Scout in the United States, and is one of the oldest and
most respected Scout Troops in the Nation; and
WHEREAS, Troop 40 has been and continues to be an asset to the commu-
nity; in addition to the service projects, the troop has developed many
young boys into responsible adults through the teaching of Scouting
ideals and training; and
WHEREAS, Since 1914, the young men of Boy Scout Troop 40 have been
helping the Rockville Centre community through many generations, through
good times and tough times, through war times and peace times; and
WHEREAS, Similarly, the Rockville Centre community has helped the boys
of Troop 40 grow into young citizens, understanding what it means to
grow, to learn, to work as a team, to lead and to give back; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to add its commendation and
congratulations on this notable occasion, recognizing the proud history,
exemplary efforts and promising future of Troop 40 and its dedicated
leadership who have given so selflessly, with meritorious achievement,
in contributing to the education and development of the youth of their
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Rockville Centre Boy Scout Troop 40
of the Theodore Roosevelt Council on June 7, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Boy Scout Troop 40, Rockville Centre, New York.
