LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert F.
Garrison Post No. 3350 upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2012 Community Service Award by the National Veterans of Foreign
Wars

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and support
the purposeful cause of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, recognizing its
long and sustained commitment to the principles of democracy and freedom
so revered by this State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350, East
Rockaway, New York, upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the 2012 Community Service Award by the National Veterans of Foreign
Wars, to be celebrated at its unveiling ceremony at the Post on Tuesday,
March 12, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the VFW is to foster camaraderie among United
States veterans of overseas conflicts; to serve veterans, the military,
and communities; and to advocate on behalf of all veterans; and
WHEREAS, The vision of the VFW is to ensure that veterans are
respected for their service, always receive their earned entitlements,
and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have
made on behalf of this great country; and
WHEREAS, The members of Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350 follow the
core values set forth of all VFW which include: always put the interests
of the members first; treat donors as partners in our cause; promote
patriotism; honor military service; ensure the care of veterans and
their families; serve their communities; promote a positive image of the
VFW; and respect the diversity of veteran opinions; and
WHEREAS, Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350 has faithfully served the
East Rockaway community and its veterans, dedicating its purpose to the
preservation of the values and principles of this great republic; and
WHEREAS, Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350 initiates many activities on
behalf of the community, its veterans and the VFW's national causes,
always striving to support educational needs, as well as social and
patriotic values, while maintaining an integral role in community
affairs of concern to veterans and their families; and
WHEREAS, With a strong belief in community, the Robert F. Garrison
Post No. 3350 helps with organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts,
and the Kiwanis Club; the members also dedicate their time and energies
to numerous neighborhood activities including the annual Memorial Day
Parade and Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, every year, Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350
bestows scholarship awards to deserving students of East Rockaway High
School as well as scholarships to one male and one female member of the
high school band; and
WHEREAS, Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350 is a noble post, accomplish-
ing its mission and performing its good deeds in a spirit of comradeship
true to the highest traditions of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
United States; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
absolute commitment of the proud members of Robert F. Garrison Post No.
3350, noting the role played by this exceptional organization and recog-
nizing the significance of the contributions and sacrifices of its
membership; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350

upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2012 Community
Service Award by the National Veterans of Foreign Wars; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert F. Garrison Post No. 3350.
