LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mari DeTota upon the occasion of captur-
ing First Place in the Elks Area 1 National Soccer Shoot-Out

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize our young
individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence through
rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, by encouraging a healthy stan-
dard of living, by imparting a desire for success, and by developing a
sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mari
DeTota upon the occasion of capturing First Place in the Elks Area 1
National Soccer Shoot-Out; and
WHEREAS, Prior to competing at the national level, Mari DeTota
received First Place in the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks
New York State Soccer Shoot-Out contest on October 20, 2012, in Pough-
keepsie, New York; this state title earned her a ticket to the Elks Area
1 National Shoot-Out contest held on November 3, 2012, in Smithfield,
Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, At the 2012 Elks Area 1 National Shoot-Out contest, Mari
DeTota earned a First Place trophy in the Girls Under 12division, after
beating six other state champions from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont,
Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, Mari DeTota, an11-year-old student from Liverpool, and a
member of the Syracuse Fusion Soccer team, became the 2012 Girls U12
National Soccer Shoot-Out champion; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of the competition, Mari DeTota has grown in
skill and resolve, demonstrating outstanding leadership, sportsmanship,
athletic excellence, academic achievements and exemplary character; and
WHEREAS, When Mari DeTota is not on the field, she remains dedicated
to her scholastic career maintaining above average grades, and enjoys
spending time with her family and younger sister; and
WHEREAS, Humble in spirit, Mari DeTota takes her successes in stride
and is quick to credit her team members, since no team can succeed with-
out talent throughout the entire roster; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and recognize Mari DeTota for her athletic excellence, and for
capturing First Place in the Elks Area 1 National Soccer Shoot-Out; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mari DeTota.
