LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Glen-Michael Francis upon the occasion
of his retirement as Executive Director after many years of distin-
guished service to GRIOT Circle, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its members; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Glen-Michael Francis upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to GRIOT Circle, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, GRIOT Circle, Inc. is the only community-based organization
whose mission is to provide advocacy, programs and services to LGBT
Elders of Color; it is a local, regional and national leader for LGBT
senior issues; and
WHEREAS, Glen-Michael Francis joined the staff of GRIOT Circle, Inc.
as Director of Program Services in 2002; in this role, Glen-Michael
Francis drew on his long history of activism and program and advocacy
work to significantly enhance and expand the organization's service and
program base; and
WHEREAS, Glen-Michael Francis stepped into the role of Executive
Director in 2008; his widely respected abilities in grant and program
development, advocacy and creative visioning have earned the admiration,
esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Glen-Michael Francis has left an indelible imprint on the
work of GRIOT Circle, Inc.; his transformative influence has been
instrumental in creating the collaborative and intergenerational culture
of this vital organization; and
WHEREAS, Glen-Michael Francis is also a founding member of the Audre
Lorde Project, an Ambassador for American Association of Retired Persons
(AARP) and has served on numerous advisory boards, including the Leader-
ship Council for the Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network of the Ameri-
can Society on Aging, and the Seniors Issues Committee and Governance
Committee of the Empire State Pride Agenda; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Glen-Michael Francis upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service to GRIOT Circle, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Glen-Michael Francis.
