LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of RSVP of
Chemung County

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 40th Anniversary of RSVP of Chemung County, to be celebrated
on Thursday, March 28, 2013, in Elmira, New York; and
WHEREAS, This event will be the last RSVP volunteer recognition cere-
mony at the Clemens Center; on April 1, 2013, the organization will
transition to the Chemung Volunteer Action Corps, where it will begin
serving volunteers of all ages in a slightly different format; and
WHEREAS, RSVP is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the nation;
in providing one-stop shopping to individuals looking to give back to
their communities, RSVP volunteers enjoy maximum flexibility in choosing
how and where they want to serve and for how many hours; and
WHEREAS, RSVP of Chemung County provides volunteer service to meet
community needs; it enables individuals 55 years of age or older to
actively participate in the life of their community through volunteer
service, thus enhancing the lives of the volunteers and the community;
and
WHEREAS, An annual event, RSVP of Chemung County will offer awards and
honor over 900 volunteers who have contributed over 127,000 hours
through more than 100 community agencies during 2012; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
recognize RSVP of Chemung County, for its unwavering commitment to the
citizens of New York, as it provides an uncompromising standard of
excellence in the delivery of superlative community service; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of RSVP of Chemung County; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carol Houssock, Director, RSVP of Chemung County.
