LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Ronald S. Feingold upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service as an educa-
tor at Adelphi University

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this great
State; and
WHEREAS, The result of many individuals' efforts, the excellence and
the success of Adelphi University is due in large part to the efforts of
its retiring distinguished educator, Dr. Ronald S. Feingold; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Ronald S. Feingold upon the occasion of his retirement after many years
of distinguished service as an educator at Adelphi University; and
WHEREAS, A highly experienced educator and administrator, Dr. Ronald
S. Feingold is Professor and Chair of Health Studies, Physical Educa-
tion and Human Performance Sciences at Adelphi University in Garden
City, New York; and
WHEREAS, Specializing and focusing on fitness education, sports medi-
cine and professional issues in health and physical education, Dr.
Ronald S. Feingold has had a long and distinguished tenure at Adelphi
University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald S. Feingold began his career at Adelphi University
as a lecturer in 1966 and has served throughout the years in numerous
positions at the University including: instructor, fellow, graduate
coordinator, assistant professor, associate professor, professor, chair-
man of both the department of physical education and the department of
human performance science and health studies, physical education and
human performance science, and dean of the school of education; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Ronald S. Feingold has held part-time posi-
tions at Adelphi University as Chair of the Adelphi Consortium on Aging
and Director of the Institute of Sports Medicine & Physical Fitness; he
also served as Director of the Sports Fitness Program at the University
of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his academic career at Adelphi University, Dr.
Ronald S. Feingold served in numerous critical university governance
activities, including as faculty senate chair in 1980, 1984, 1988 and
2009-10; he was also the chair of the School of Education restructuring
committee in 2004, and a member of the commission on restructuring the
university in 1997-98; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald S. Feingold is a prolific and renowned author and
a distinguished presenter at international, national, state and local
forums; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of many distinguished honors and awards, Dr.
Ronald S. Feingold has also been a community leader serving as a member
of the Board of the American Heart Association for Long Island and
Nassau County, and as its Chairman in 1989-91; he was also a Board
member of the American Heart Association for New York State in 1991-93;
in addition, he was a member of the Board of the Nassau County Sports
Commission in 1992-2002 and served on the Nassau County Sports Medicine
Committee, 1977-82; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald S. Feingold received his doctorate from the
University of New Mexico in 1972; he holds a Master's in Education
degree from the University of Arizona (1966) and a Bachelor of Science
degree from the University of Illinois (1965); and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald S. Feingold has continually demonstrated an
impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting
enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and opportunities
offered at Adelphi University for the benefit of its faculty and
students, as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, In completing many years of service as an educator, Dr.
Ronald S. Feingold leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he
leaves behind a legacy to Adelphi University and to future generations
of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend and honor Dr. Ronald S. Feingold upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service as an educator at
Adelphi University; and for his significant contributions to education
in New York State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Ronald S. Feingold.
