LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kathy Munsch upon the occasion of her
designation as a 2013 Long Island Center for Business and Professional
Women Achiever

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kathy Munsch upon the occasion of her designation as a 2013 Long Island
Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated at the Center's 34th Annual Achievers'
Awards Gala, to be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013; and
WHEREAS, For more than thirty-five years, the Long Island Center for
Business and Professional Women has been dedicated to advancing women in
business, industry and the professions; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Center for Business and Professional Women
celebrates and honors women who are leaders, mentors and who have opened
doors for other women to help foster their rise in business, the
professions and in their community; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Munsch is Vice President of the American Heart Associ-
ation; she began her tenure at the Association in 2000 as a Senior
Regional Director and was later promoted to Regional Vice President; and
WHEREAS, In her responsibilities as Vice President of the American
Heart Association, Kathy Munsch manages its Long Island office, the Long
Island Board of Directors, a development staff, and coordinates the
integration of her development staff with other departments in the
Founder Affiliate such as communications, quality improvement initi-
atives and professional education; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the American Heart Association, Kathy Munsch
was Executive Director for a grass roots breast cancer organization,
raising money for education and awareness for Long Island women; she
began her career with not-for-profits working for ten years at the
Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, starting as its
supervising paralegal and then becoming events manager; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Munsch's leadership has resulted in more than 2,000
companies on Long Island participating in National Wear Red Day, a
component of the Go Red for Women Movement, educating women by raising
their awareness of cardiovascular disease; and
WHEREAS, Among her many professional memberships and affiliations,
Kathy Munsch is past Executive Vice President on the Board of Directors
for the Long Island Women's Agenda, and past board member for The Long
Island Fund for Women and Girls, and a past committee member of the LI
Fund's Annual Achievers Breakfast committee; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Munsch also serves on the Board of Directors, Long
Island Chapter for the Association of Fundraising Professionals and its
program committee; she is a member of Action Long Island and serves on
its Healthcare Task Force; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Kathy Munsch has received the Community Outreach
Healthcare Heroes Award presented by LONG ISLAND BUSINESS NEWS in recog-
nition of exceptional dedication, commitment and contributions to the
quality of health care on Long Island; she also received the Women

Making a Difference Award from the Soroptomist Society of Nassau County;
and
WHEREAS, Kathy Munsch received the Long Island Women of Distinction
Award from the LONG ISLAND PRESS - FORTUNE 52 and was named one of Long
Island's Top 50 Women by LONG ISLAND BUSINESS NEWS; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Adelphi University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Business Management, Kathy Munsch also holds an Associate
Degree in Paralegal Studies from Nassau Community College; and
WHEREAS, A resident of East Meadow, New York, with her husband, Paul,
Kathy Munsch has two grown children and two beloved grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Kathy Munsch; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathy Munsch upon the occasion of her designation as a 2013 Long
Island Center for Business and Professional Women Achiever; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathy Munsch.
